Our co-founders have seen firsthand the impact
of social emotional learning and how it plays out in
professional kitchens and restaurant culture. The
goal of launching The Kind Kitchen Group in 2023
was to weave those lessons into culinary
education across North Carolina.

Now in year two, we are excited to pilot

Mission

The Kind Kitchen Group meets communities
experiencing adversity with nurture through
food and radical care.

Our programs shatter ceilings by developing
talent often overlooked. Founded by
classically-trained Black LGBTQ+ female chef
restaurateurs and educators committed to
writing equity into systems, we walk the talk
bridging heritage, economic mobility and
wellbeing.

Our board mirrors the brilliant diversity
sustaining our community from the ground
up. With authenticity, heart and minority-
governed intuition, we equip all people to
unlock barriers coded by false
narratives...then watch them soar.

The Kind Kitchen Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
founded by Black female chefs with a desire to
drive social change through food. Leveraging the
power of food to equitably nurture potential and
overcome barriers.

Our approach pairs culinary education with socio-
emotional learning to address individual and
community-based social determinants of health,
driving empowerment from the ground up.

NourishNow provides culturally relevant
culinary education integrated with mental
health support, increases access to nutritious
foods, and empowers youth with practical skills
for both cooking and emotional wellbeing.

By participating in NourishNow
programs, youth gain more than just
cooking techniques. They develop
emotional regulation, stress
management, and communication
skills. They learn about urban farming,
explore mental health themes through
food-related literature, and become
advocates for better mental health
resources in their communities.

NourishNow represents our commitment to
creating a holistic impact on youth health and
wellbeing. It's not just about teaching recipes – it's
about cultivating resilience, fostering community,
and showing youth their incredible potential.
